Last Monday was Tris' first day of real school, the big Kindergarten. She was very excited leading up to the actual first day, she was looking forward to meeting new friends and riding the bus. The night before we got her settled into bed at a decent time but she didn't sleep very well. Monday morning we got up extra early to make sure she had enough time to wake up before we headed to school. She was quite apprehensive about actually going, but took it all in stride. She didn't get nervous until we pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car. Josh recorded her walking in, she was very quiet, definitely not smiling, but not fighting it either. Josh and I walked her to the classroom and stayed with her for a few minutes while she got acclimated. The morning assignments was to write the date and "My name is...." followed by a picture of herself on the first day of school. We waited around for a few minutes and then decided to sneak out. Luckily she was completely fine with us leaving. I actually cried my eyes out when walked out. I really did not think I would be emotional about it, but I was. It is just so hard to believe that our first baby is now so independent and in school! The day was spent quietly wondering how she was doing, Jackson was a little down and did not act like himself very much. He was overly joyed when I told him it was finally time to go to the bus stop, this is now his favorite time of the day! We headed up to the bus stop extra early to make sure we didn't miss her. Once the big cheese drove up we immediately saw the huge grin on her face, she had a wonderful first day and could not wait to do it again! Since then she has awoken herself every morning around 7am, without the help of an alarm, and gets herself ready. Normally she is the one dragging me out of bed instead of it being the other way around!
During Tristyn's first week her behavior sheet wasn't what we would've expect from the sweet and well behaved little girl we were used to. She was getting low marks for talking and not following instructions. Gradually over the past three weeks she has started doing better and now really takes pride her achieving a perfect score on her daily behavior. Occasionally she likes to come home and talk about her day, but usually she wants to come straight home and work on her reading words. She is beyond thrilled to start reading! We are so very proud of her enthusiasm. She has done excellent memorizing her sight words each week and loves coming home to practice her flash cards and write them in her at home journal that we started. She is very eager to learn, I love that about her!
