Today was my 6 month checkup at the OBGYN. I thought at first that it was just a routine checkup because that is what they told me to expect at my last appointment, but it ended up being the visit where I did the 1 hour Gluclose Tolerance Test for Gestational Diabetes. When we first arrived they checked my weight...I have gained 13 pounds since August 30th! I know some of you are thinking "WOAH That's a lot, what a hefer!" but during the entire 6 months of the pregnancy that is the only weight I have gained. Midwife Kelly said that gaining weight was good and that I had nothing to worry about. Of course I still need to continue eating heathly and not get too lazy but packing on the pounds seems to be a good thing :) After they took my weight I had to sit down and drink a bottle of orange soda flavored stuff for the gluclose test. I went in to the room to have my visit with Midwife Kelly where she checked my blood pressure (normal) and this time she measured the belly! They will be doing that every visit from now on, and the belly measured up to the exact week, which is good. Then she listened for Tristyn's heartbeat, and while she was doing it Tristyn actually kicked her! Kelly jumped back and starting laughing because Tristyn was being so active. She actually kept moving away from the doppler so Kelly was having to chase her around trying to get her heartrate! She's an active little girl ;)
After that I had to go into the waiting area and sit for an hour until it was time for them to take my blood. They gave me a stack of paperwork to fill out while I was waiting. I signed forms consenting to a vaginal and/or cersearian birth, noting that I could die, lose limbs, etc etc etc, that was scary! Needless to say I signed all of the forms and turned them in when I was finished. I was also given a birth plan to fill out but I brought it home so Josh and I can do it together.
Along with the stacks of paperwork they gave me all kinds of information on Northside Hospital including a pre-registration form, directions, pictures of the hospital and the rooms, classes to take, insurance information, directions, basically everything I need to know and everything I need to expect! I sat and read most of the book and I learned a lot. A lot the questions I had were answered in the book. I'll fill you in on some of their policies and procedures: Besides Josh, only 2 other people are allowed in the room during labor and delivery. Children 12 years and under are not permitted to visit at anytime what-so-over. Visiting hours are from 11:00am - 8:30pm. Only immediate family and very close friends are encouraged to visit, all others are encouraged to wait until after we get home to visit. Phone calls are limited to 9:00am - 10:00pm. There are many others but those are just a few that I thought y'all would like to know. I agree with all of their policies and procedures which is great! After my 1 hour wait they drew a vile of blood and sent me on my way. I will hear back from them sometime next week if anything is abnormal or if I need to come in for further testing. Let's all pray that everything will be fine and that none of that will be needed :)
There is a lot that Josh and I have to do from now until the time Tristyn is here. We still have to schedule an appointment to take a hospital tour, choose a pediatrician, take our childbirth class, finish her nursery, etc! It's all a little overwhelming but I'm sure it will all be worth it. Josh and I both look forward to meeting our little baby girl everyday! Even Sarge is excited, he gives his baby sister kisses every morning when he wakes up (yes he actually licks the belly!). Before we all know it she will be here!
Well, Josh should be walking in the door any minute and I have to straighten up the house before he gets home. We are going over to Glenn and Beverly's for dinner tonight at 7pm. I think we are having tilapia (fish) and some other stuff...should be good ;) I'll update next time something fun and exciting happens...Until then.....
Love,
Tay
