Yesterday was quite an experience. It all began with our routine 39 week checkup at the OB. Josh got off of work early and came by the house to pick me up and we rushed over to the doctors office where we went through the weekly process of leaving a urine specimen, weighing in, and being escorted to a room. Once we were in the the room the nurse checked my blood pressure and mentioned that it was pretty high although she did not tell me the exact numbers. She gave a sheet and had me undress from the waist down and wait on the midwife. Midwife Libby arrived several minutes later and did the cervical exam (which she said I was only dilated 1cm!), listened to T's heartbeat, and then began asking me questions that related to having high blood pressure. They went and checked my urine and said that it had protein in it. So with the combination of having high blood pressure, protein in my urine, and swelling she felt the need to send me to down to the hospital to have some lab work done to make sure that I wasn't developing preclampsia and to make sure that Tristyn wasn't being stressed. She also mentioned that if my lab work came back with abnormal results than they might induce labor. So Midwife Libby wrote my orders, handed them to me, and sent me off to the hospital. Josh and I were pretty excited on the way there with thoughts of being able to hold our baby girl in a short while but at the same time I was extremely nervous about what they might tell me about my blood pressure and lab work.
It took us nearly an hour to get to the hospital because of the 5 o'clock traffic. Once we got there we had to check in at the labor and delivery desk and wait to be assigned a room. Once we got a room we sat around and waited for the nurse to arrive to give us further instructions. The nurse first had me leave a urine specimen and then she had me undress and put on a gown and lay in the bed where she hooked my belly up several monitors, one for Tristyn's heartbeat and one for contractions, and then a blood pressure monitor around my arm. The nurse then drew a vile of blood and sent it off to the lab along with the urine specimen. We then had a mound of paperwork to go through where she asked me a ton of questions and had me sign a bunch of papers. After that was over the waiting game began. Josh and I sat there and watching TV for several hours until Midwife Emma (the one I adore) came by to let us know that all of the labs had come back totally normal! And my blood pressure was great! Needless to say Josh and I were shocked but at the same time relieved. Emma offered to induce me the next morning but I did not really feel comfortable doing that. We would have had to stayed in the hospital over night and I just didn't feel like Tristyn and I were ready yet. Emma went ahead and did a cervical exam and said that I was 2cm dilated and told me that Libby was just a hard butt and always told people higher rather than lower! LOL!
Emma went ahead and scheduled an induction for Monday 1/17/05 morning in case Tristyn doesn't arrive this weekend. She still thinks that little Tristyn will be almost 8lbs at birth...what a little heifer. So I guess it is just a waiting game from now until Monday. I am hoping and praying that I go into labor naturally on my own sometime between now and then but if I do not then I guess we will have a little girl sometime Monday evening or Tuesday morning. How exciting! Everyone please say a prayer for both of us :)
In other news.....wait....I don't have any other news! Hahaha! Life has been very "mellow" this past week and I'm sure it will continue to be so until T's arrival. I will try and update if anything new happens!
