OH! Sorry...got caught up there for a second. Tristyn loves that song - always laughs when I sing it to her. Maybe it is because I make goofy faces, hmmm, who knows.

Tristyn is doing relatively well on the solids. So far she has not taken carrots, sweet potatoes, and squash well. They all make her irritable and so I am giving up on them. If something so evil is going to make my otherwise darling daughter cranky then I am banning them from our lives. Veggies no more! Well, at least those few for now. I just don't know what to do next. I have researched feeding schedules for a 5 month old for days on end and can't ever find decent reliable information. My books aren't that helpful either. Looks like I need to head to the library!
I am just confused at why they don't have more vegetable options in the 1st stage foods? I have fed her green beans, applesauce, pears, carrots (uck), sweet potatoes (uck), squash (uck), peaches (uck), and bananas. So out of 8 foods she will take 1/2 of them successfully. Crazy girl. Maybe this is where parenting is going to get tricky for us - a picky eater. If anything has ever annoyed me it has been a picky eater, and so by all means that must mean I'll have one. Tris loves the bananas (hence the title), and that is our latest addition to the new foods. I am completely through the 1st stage food trials....now what?! LOL. Help. I am sure I will figure it out on my own but advice from you highly trained and experienced Mother's out there is always welcome :) *insert big fake smile here!*
Seeing as how I have been up since 4am due to lack of participation to sleep on the sofa because our a/c unit is not properly functioning upstairs, I think I'll go make some coffee. Woah that was a long sentence. Sorry. Okay off to, um, clean maybe?
More updates soon, promise. Pictures too. Sorry I have been in a non-posting mood lately. Oh, Oh, that reminds me - I'll post later about the Father's Day gift we made for hubby yesterday.

I'm learning right with you girl! Actually, we haven't started Gracie on baby food yet. I don't even know when a good age is! Tris isn't much older than Grace is she? Hmmmm....this should be fun if I can start that :)
good luck, tay! i am not even gonna offer any advice! LOL!!! every kid is different... as long as they're eating! ehehehe...
take care! *hugs*
She is SUCH A CUTIE!!!! I can't wait to have one of my own!!!
Thanks for stopping by my blog- i appreciate it.
I will have no clue about when to start babies on veggies and solids. My friends talk about it all the time but I'm scared that I'll mess it up. I have been reading books, but they all say something different- of course. I think I'll drive myself crazy with those books....
Have a good day!
LOL - Both my boys LOVED bananas more than anything. It was one of my first son's first words... And I couldn't let my husband feed the babies bananas either because he'd keep taking bites for himself and before he knew it, it was gone! ROFL.
My boys also love that Gwen Stefani song. Just make sure you stick to the radio version. The real unedited version says the "s" word ALOT.
There's really not a whole lot of difference in the first and second stage foods as far as consistency. There is a difference in price and selection as you well know. If you've already been through the stage one foods at 3 days in between introductions, you're probably ready for stage 2. Avoid the meat combination foods until your doctor advises.
Some of the best stage two foods: apples and blueberries, Hawaiian Delight, and well, I'm not near the pantry right now. At least you tried to give Tristyn veggies before fruits. Oh well, as xtessa said, "all babies are different and all that matters is that they eat." The finickyness has only begun!
Also, if Tristyn has teeth, she's probably ready for Cheerios and those little Gerber stars that melt in your mouth.
Gee, the Triscuit is a picky eater???
Wonder where she gets that from?
Could it be from her Mother who would "gag" at the sight of a greenbean?
Of course, I didn't know you until you were 14--but at that point you were only consistently sampling two food groups: Pepsi and Moonpies.
You soooooo deserve this Tay-tay! :)
Love you,
T.
Hey Taylor, thanks for visiting my blog!
Sam was the exact opposite--he hated green beans, peas, anything green, but would gobble up carrots and sweet potatoes. It's no biggie--just keep trying different foods till you find stuff that works. It's all for practice rather than nutrition right now anyway.
I agree with ieatcrayonz (a GREAT screenname, btw) about the stage 2 foods--they're just bigger jars. Try those out if you're worried about her selections.
Keep offering them every once in a while. Sometimes it takes a while for them to like it!!
hi first time here...I am a stay at home mom of 3 angles..lol...i have done it all...kids are differnt..so dont go by what another baby is doing...but bout 4 -6 months is a good place to starr....take care...God Bless you and the new bundle:-)
Hi Taylor!! I have missed reading about everything going on in your life!!! Things have been crazy in my neck of the woods but I just wanted to say hey! You know, I had the SAME problem with baby foods!! Not enough veggies!! And I am bad . . . I don't feed Myles the ones I don't like . . . like mainly green beans *YUCK*
Hope that you are having a fun summer!! :)
BTW! I love your new look!!! Man, how do you do it?!! I am so impressed!! :) It is so cute!
Hey there,
Stage one foods is just the basics to make sure they do not have any reactions... once you have tried all of them you can move on to stage 2 which offers more of a variety. Tristyn is such a cutie!!
I think I remember feeding Em at first twice a day on solids. Once in the morning then at night. If they are still hungry then add another one in the afternoon. I think it is best to just go by how your baby acts. If hungry add food! LOL Of course make sure she is getting all the formula or BM she needs during the day as it still should be her main source of food. As she gets older she will be on three solid meals plus snacks, but that is closer to a year old. Does that help at all? Good Lord, I wrote a book! LOL
Thanks for such a sweet comment on my blog as well... I always enjoy your blog and your comments on mine. Later chicky!
Adorable!
If you want more variety on veggies try pureeing some in your blender whenever yo make them for you! That way you don't have to spend the extra $$ for the little jars (although convenient they are) and she'll get used to the taste of them the way you make them!
Have a great day!
I agree with what Jewl said. You can also mix 1st foods together for new flavors. Like apple-banana. Don't give up on the yellow/orange foods forever. She may change her mind in a week or so. Liam hated oatmeal at first. I tried it every couple of weeks. Now he prefers it - loves it. Also keep an eye on the poop factor. Some foods constipate (esp bananas). 2nd foods offer more variety but also a bit more texture so don't be surprised if she makes a face at first.
I LOVE that song!!!
Can you try 2nd Stage Foods? They're the same consistency as 1st Stage, but with more options. Maybe youll find something that works better with Tris?
Good luck!
peaches are a tough one... verrrry tart!
what about prunes, peas, or spinach? (I say peas and spinach since she seems to like the green beans?)
and what susie said... babies can be fickle. rhena went from LOVING peas to HATING them, but now she'll eat them again! who knew???
hang in there, and enjoy exploring the foods!
