Cousins x 2

I grew up with only one cousin with whom I was close to. I am grateful for having the one cousin but yet I have always been envious of those with big families and many cousins. Tristyn was born as the first Grandchild to both sides of the family. I am an only child and Josh has three brothers, 2 of whom are married. Yesterday we found out that my sister-in-law Ju is expecting a baby girl. I am overly excited at the thought of Tristyn having a cousin so close in age and also the same gender! Seeing as how I am an only child Tristyn does not have any Aunts or Uncles from my side of the family. Instead I substitue my closest friends to play the role of the brothers and sisters I will never have. Tasha, one of my closest friends has always been called 'Aunt T' by our family (since Tristyn's arrival). Tasha is expecting a baby boy, Mason, in early December. Tristyn will acquire two cousins within a matter of several months. I am absolutely thrilled about this. I can only hope and pray that they will remain close friends throughout their lives. I have always wished that I had that growing up and now it looks like I will be able to provide that for my daughter.

With my sister-in-law and close friend both pregnant it has been all things baby around here lately. On Saturday I am co-hosting a shower for Tasha with one of her friends. I have been working on ideas and such for almost three months now. The theme of Mason's room is moons and stars so I wanted the shower to reflect that. I spent a lot of time searching for the right plates and decor. Instead of the traditional cake I ordered petit four cakes and had baker top the cakes with moons and stars. My husband picked them up for me today and said they look horrible. I haven't yet seen them but expecting the worst. Yesterday I began making small white chocolate stars to use as edible decoration around the food table. Today I had the chocolate in the microwave melting and I was on the phone with Josh asking questions about the cakes. I was supposed to stir the melted chocolate every 30 seconds but got sidetracked and forgot so I BURNT chocolate. I didn't even know you could do that, but you can. I only have a small amount of melting chocolate left so therefore I will need to pick some more up tonight. Burnt chocolate, ugly cakes, what more could you ask for? Is this going to be the perfect shower or what?! LOL. It will be great, but today has just been very testing.

In other way more exciting news...Tristyn has learned how to push away from me. When I am holding her she will pick up my hand and throw it away from her, like she's saying "get off Mom!". This chick has attitude and I know it's only going to get worse!

Happy Friday!

I am so excited that Alexa and Tristyn are going to be only a year apart. I have a few female cousins and a sister, so I know how it feels to have that sisterly/cousinly bond, and it is amazing! I am so excited!!!

LOL - Don't worry about the pushing away. They come back around ;)

Cousins can make great friends! I wish my boys were closer to theirs. They have 1 they never met, 2 they've seen only a few times, and then the last one they see atleast once a month and they're very close. (My sister's son.)

Cute idea with the petit fors. They're so tasty! ... even if they don't look great, oh well! It's still food. LOL... I'm sure she'll appreciate all the trouble you've gone to with the theme.

Good luck with the rest of it!

I'm dying for some cousins for Liam, too. Dave's brother and sister in law don't want kids and it looks like my brother and sister in law might be infertile =(

I only had two cousins and they lived far away.

So excited that Tristyn is going to have a close cousin!

Your shower will be wonderful. Anything done out of love is beautiful....faults and all =) Hoping the petit fours aren't *too* ugly =)

How awesome! Tristyn, Mason and Alexa, too cute! Might want to watch out on the cousin Mason bit though...what if they grow up and decide to get married! LOL, JK!

Good luck with the shower, I hear burnt chocolate is a rare commodity these days, lol.

Looks like Tristyn is becoming little miss independant! Embrace her new independance and let her show you what she can do. She'll be greatful for that support in the end.
